We have the passion. We have the drive. This was our first day out to show the world our vision. Sexy, violent, cute art you can wear. It was 23 degrees outside that weekend, but we were determined to get out there, anyway. Only one way to get started; just f’n start.
Our first hire, Clarissa. Nice and quiet help is hard to find, especially with so much gangsta. Our dress code is pretty lax.
Two weeks later, it wasn’t any warmer. That’s okay. This time, we brought hoodies! Only one problem… No customers! It was just way too cold. Time to re-think our approach.
Round three at Traders Village. We bumped it up a notch by renting our own enclosed spot to create the atmosphere for our customers.
We painted our cubby in a two-toned design to really stand apart from our neighbors.
In the Works
It was a tough week of putting together our Abominable Grisly store front. With many late nights, it came along nicely. As you can see, Clarissa is always supervising our efforts.
Tagged & Hanged
The hard work paid off once we saw our tees on the wall. It gave us a real sense of pride and accomplishment. A moment that stays with us to this day.
A month later, we built a 3-ft tall foam cut-out of our mascot, Abo! We placed him in the front & center of the store for all to worship.
Clarissa is posing in front of our little store. She was so proud.
With Clarissa growing more conceited, we had to hire a new model, Hiro. Turns out, Hiro was into drinking just like Clarissa was into selfies. At least he had cool hair & shades from the future.
After 3 months of whole-hearted efforts, we closed the shop. Staying stationary wasn’t helping to spread the brand fast enough, so we redirected our efforts. It was a tough choice, but we decided to follow the advice of our customers. Conventions, here we come!
Here we are, first convention. Animania, in Wichita Falls, turned out to be the perfect jump start into this new nomadic way of vendor life.
5-hr Set Up
Took us a bit longer than most @ a lengthy 5 hours, but we finally got our display up. This was an exciting night. In the morning, we would return as convention vendors. We met so many amazing people that weekend. A great way to begin our convention run of 2018.
A month and a half later, we made our debut in Abilene, TX for Anime Sek Ai. We had so much fun at this convention. Everyone was so nice and supportive of the potential in our brand.
2 weeks later, we were in Bastrop, TX. Oh, to be among our kindred spirits at the Cult Classic Convention! We truly felt at home here. The music, the merch, the actors. Horror, horror everywhere!
Bill Johnson, the second leatherface himself, christened our brand. He signed our Hacker Tee; the very first design we made for Abominable Grisly. The Saw is Family! Can’t wait to return to this convention.
First festival - SteamPunk Nov. We learned that a festival is an entirely different animal compared to conventions. Sleeping outside in 19 degree weather is not ideal. We managed to power through those two miserable nights. Next time, hotel room!
This would most definitely be our car if we were actually vampires. I can still pretend, right?
The Struggle Continues
First year under our belt and a whole new mindset from the things we learned. We will continue our quest to cover the world in Sexy, Violent, Cute Art. We hope you will support and join us on this journey.
